- Description: Since 2006, the White River School District has been implementing, on a district-wide basis, professional learning community concepts and practices. The district has embraced the three “big ideas” of a professional learning community—an intense and passionate focus on learning, a shift from a culture of teacher isolation to a collaborative culture characterized by the use of high-performing collaborative teams and an intense focus on results. Virtually every major issue in the White River School district is addressed through the framework of collaborative teaming. Not only has the district organized into collaborative teams, but also attention has been paid to what teams do, and perhaps more important, how well they perform. Because of White River’s efforts to embed the professional learning community concept on a district-wide basis, the district has received regional and national attention, sparking numerous requests for on-site visits. To accommodate as many visitors as possible, and to provide in-depth information, the White River School district will be co-hosting this event.
