Washington State ASCD Strategic Plan & Board Goals 2009-2010

Washington State ASCD is an inclusive professional association for all educators, facilitating continuous professional growth and advocating for instructional leadership to assure success for each learner.

Affiliate Developmental Continuum

WSASCD focuses on the cumulative intent of the strategic actions as aligned to the ASCD Affiliate Developmental Continuum. The Board of Directors will periodically utilize opportunities for self-examination as our affiliate moves from “Emerging” to “Effective” to “Exemplary” in each aspect of our affiliate work and for designing a pathway for improvement and advancement.

Framework for Improvement

WSASCD is a dynamic, self-renewing organization, which:

  • Commits its resources wisely for maximum value to members and the profession.
  • Provides leadership to develop the capacity of educators to improve student learning by addressing complex problems, influencing policies, and advocating practices that support quality teaching, learning, and leadership through programs, products and services.
  • Pursues collaborations and partnerships with ASCD and other constituent groups that engenders trust respect, and connectedness.
  • Conducts innovative activities to promote learning communities that shape quality teaching and learning.
  • Increases and retains a highly diverse membership that is engaged and involved.

Goal 1 - Diverse Active Membership

Strategically plan for growth, recruitment, retention, diversity, involvement, and recognition. Pursue broad representation of membership in ethnicity, gender, age, job role, geographic location, and other representations as identified. Enhances communications among members and through involvement.

Goal 2 - Communication and Publications

Maintain a high profile with members and stakeholders through the creation and dissemination of a variety of high-quality print and electronic publications used by membership, other practitioners, and policy makers.

Goal 3 - Programs, Products and Services

Develop and disseminate excellent programs, products and services to assist members to shape policy, develop capacity for teaching and learning, and improve classroom practice and student achievement.

Goal 4 - Influence/Policy

Anticipate issues and be proactive in shaping recommendations to improve education policy. Serve as a sought-after, reliable, and informed source of accurate information regarding quality teaching and learning. Work and stand for what we believe in.

Goal 5 - Leadership and Governance

Communicate our vision through action, evaluation, and reflection, governed by strong strategic planning that emerges from a shared vision. Ensure our future through leadership development, and understanding the reciprocal nature of our relationship with the ASCD Community.
