Recently, ASCD CEO and Executive Director Ranjit Sidhu issued a statement in response to the murder of George Floyd and the civil unrest and anger that has ensued across the United States in the time since. Washington State ASCD (WSASCD) is in full concurrence with Mr. Sidhu’s statement. Along with educators across our state, WSASCD condemns the deaths of Mr. Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and so many others, and stands alongside those who raise their voices in outrage against systemic racism and social injustice. We pledge to continue to listen, learn, and look for opportunities to lead for an equitable and inclusive education system for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). We are a community of educators committed to promoting promising practices to ensure all students are safe, healthy, engaged, supported, and challenged as part of a whole child approach to education. And, we will continue to fight for equity. Black lives matter.
